APW – Otay Watch Co, Otay, California, 15J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase with superb engraving detail on rear of an idyllic town scene, white enamel SS impressed dial, SW-LS, gilt mvt, s#30065. This scarce and short-lived southern California maker was only in production from May to November of 1890, with a total output of about 1200 watches made. Please note that the following lot is the consecutive serial number (s#30066) to this example which offers the collector a rare opportunity to own a pair of consecutive serial numbers from this scarce maker. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, missing case stem and tick in dial down position with some error but when turned dial up it usually stops suggesting a likely balance staff and/or balance jewel issue, overhaul needed...

Mvt: NR, missing case stem and when mvt is removed from case and tested with a stem it will tick in dial down position with some error in the flat of its balance motion but when turned dial up it usually stops soon after suggesting a likely balance staff and/or balance jewel issue, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine scratch on barrel bridge, few mild lesser fine and micro-fine scratches elsewhere, oxide to regulator assembly; dial with hl from 9:30 continuing through center to 3:30, hl from center into seconds-register, few minuscule edge flakes under bezel near 4 and 6; fine hour and seconds-hand, minute hand with finish loss; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving and engine turning detail, small spot of wear to brass within upper part of inner rear lid; tight bow with slightly brassy underside, brass crown shows light wear, stem is missing; good glass crystal.
